Delicately Textured Hand Filleted

Commonly known as Saba on sushi menus, our delicately textured mackerel fillets are hand-packed with just a touch of sea salt. No water, oils or fillers are added.

Hand-filleted with great care and attention to detail to remove bones, this wild mackerel is prepared with the skin on for best nutrition, providing a more flavor-forward experience very similar to tuna. Our mackerel fillets are an easy and tasty way to eat lower on the food chain.

Caught using single-species purse seine methods that virtually eliminate unintended bycatch. Any incidental bycatch of other species is fully retained and utilized. Nothing is discarded. FADs* are never used.

*Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) are man-made objects that attract fish often outside of the targeted species causing unintentional bycatch.

Our mackerel is harvested in the North Pacific Ocean, working with well-managed fisheries in Japan that practice sustainable harvesting of targeted free-swimming schools of mackerel.

    Delicious healthy Omega-3s

    Until I started buying from Wild Planet, I had never even tasted mackerel. I gave it a try and I love it. This can of mackerel is packed with water rather than the oil-based filets, so I am able to get the good nutrition of an excellent fatty fish rich in Omega-3s without the extra oil. I have added it to salads so far, but it likely has many other uses.

    Absoutely delicious.

    I simply open a tin, dump it in a bowl, pour a teaspoon of olive oil over a splash of balsamic vinegar and eat it with a couple of small baked crackers. It's delicious and satisfying.. to say nothing of nutritious and healthy.

    Milder than tuna and so tasty.

    I know I have a new favorite canned fish. This fish was not begging for mayonnaise to hide its strong flavor. Personal opinion: Much better than any canned tuna. Well done Wild Planet!
